However in 1620 the Spanish Ambassador leased the small Palace nearby. Due to increasing trade with Spain, King Philip IV decided to purchase the entire building as the headquarters of his Ambassadors. Only in 1647 was the name changed to Piazza di Spagna, when the headquarters of the Spanish Embassy in the Vatican moved to Palazzo di Spagna.
